Sleep Country USA Signs Naming Rights to Washington State Fair ShowPlex

Puyallup – March 25, 2013 –The Washington State Fair Events Center, a year ‘round convention, conference, meeting center and fair site located in Puyallup, Washington has sold the naming rights to their ShowPlex exhibition center to Sleep Country USA, the number one mattress retailer in the Pacific Northwest.

A deal was reached with Sleep Country USA and the 501c (3) Washington State Fair, with Sleep Country signing a deal for naming rights to ShowPlex for ten years, according to Kent Hojem, CEO, Washington State Fair and Dale Carlsen, CEO of Sleep Country USA.

The 122,000 square foot facility opened in September 2006, and will now be called the Sleep Country ShowPlex. It is booked most weekends throughout the year, and houses both private and public events.

Sleep Country has had a strong presence at the Fair for years. The company was founded in 1991, and is employee owned, with over 80 locations in the Northwest, and continues to grow. For over 20 years, Sleep Country’s company philosophy has been supported by its strong commitment to give back to the community. Sleep Country strives to make a difference in the lives of 20,000 local foster children.

“The Washington State Fair is privileged to have a partnership with a company that has a strong commitment to the community, specifically the Foster Kids program,” said Hojem. Each year the Fair joins forces with Sleep Country to provide a fun fair experience for many foster children and their foster families in the region. “Sleep Country’s values to families of all types compliments the Fair’s core values of Family, Fun and Education,” Hojem added.

The Puget Sound Business Journal recently listed the Washington State Fair Events Center as the No. 1 banquet and meeting facility in the Puget Sound region with 536,263 square feet of total meeting space available. In 2012, the facility hosted 151 interim events, totaling 261 event days, and over 500,000 guests.

Just like Sleep Country, the Washington State Fair is an institution in the Northwest. “As a company committed to the community and its customers, having our name on the ShowPlex feels like a natural progression. The Washington State Fair Events Center draws an extensive audience throughout the year, many of whom are seeking a quality night’s sleep,” said Sleep Country’s Dale Carlsen. “We are excited to have Sleep Country featured prominently for fairgoers in need of better sleep and look forward to helping foster families create lasting fair day memories for years to come.” Featuring Sleep Country on the ShowPlex will put Sleep Country’s product and services front and center for the people in need of a better sleep solution.

Qwest Field and Safeco Field in Seattle are similar types of naming rights venues in the area, pointed out Hojem of the Washington State Fair Events Center. “Our corporate sponsorship department works with local, regional and national companies who like their name to be associated with a specific location or event during both fairs, as well as the remainder of the year,” Hojem added.

The Washington State Fair is one of the biggest fairs in the world, and the largest in the Pacific Northwest. It started in 1900 in Puyallup, and welcomes over one million guests to the single largest attended event in the state. Star-studded entertainment, the PRCA Rodeo, rides, exhibits, food, flowers and animals are mainstays of the 17-day event in September.
